The Magic Pebble - Terms of use

THIS IS IMPORTANT
Please read this carefully
or you will NOT get into The Magic Pebble!

WE'RE NOT KIDDING.

Welcome to The Magic Pebble! The Magic Pebble is a forum devoted primarily (although not exclusively) to the exploration of close-up magic, particularly (again, not exclusively) magic attained through the use of sleight-of-hand. The Magic Pebble supports and fosters good discussion, humor, and insight.

Because of our desire to ensure that The Magic Pebble functions on as high a level as possible, it is admittedly not as easy to join this forum as some others. Certain rules exist to ensure that the forum is made of sincerely interested people who will interact well with the rest of the community.

Toward this, there are THREE conditions to your application for membership with The Magic Pebble.

FIRST, you must be sponsored by a current member of The Magic Pebble. DO NOT come to us without a sponsor. DO NOT ask us to find a sponsor for you. DO NOT ask the forum host (Lance Pierce) to sponsor you (by policy, he is not allowed to sponsor applicants). You MUST have had personal contact with a current member who offered or agrees to sponsor you before submitting your application.

SECOND, complete and submit your registration here on this site (by clicking on the "I Accept These Terms" button below)

THIRD, send an e-mail introducing yourself to the members of The Magic Pebble, who will vote on your application. You can send your e-mail to tmpforums@themagicpebble.com

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT SIMPLY COPY AND PASTE YOUR PROMO MATERIALS INTO YOUR E-MAIL. Address the members of the forum directly with your pertinent information. The members care more about you than how you present yourself to your clients.

Your e-mail MUST contain three elements:

1) your user name and your real name -- we prefer that you use your real name, although you may use an alias. Keep in mind that if you use an alias for your user name, your real name will still appear next to your posts.

2) the name of your sponsor -- your sponsor will vouch for you to the membership.

3) a description of your interest in magic -- you do not have to be famous or known to us, but the membership needs to be able to get an idea of who you are and your involvement in magic in order to evaluate whether you would be a good fit for the forum. You can provide a written statement of your interests in magic - a genre or area of focus, your influences, your mentors, your philosophies or theories of magic, or simply what you find most interesting in magic. You can also provide links to videos of your performances or demonstrations or to other sources that help describe your interest in magic, such as blog posts, articles, or even products you may have released. You can even point us to other forums of which you are a member. All information is helpful to give the members who may not know you a better understanding of you so they can vote appropriately.

When we receive your registration and your e-mail of introduction, we will first privately contact your sponsor to verify that he or she will vouch for your new membership. If your sponsor vouches for you, your e-mail will be presented to the general membership, and an anonymous vote of the members will be conducted. The membership, in toto, will either approve or disapprove your application. The members will base their decision in large part on what you write in your e-mail, but also on any other factors they may have at their disposal. They have 48 hours to vote, and you will be notified of the outcome.

So, 1) have a sponsor, AND 2) complete the registration process here AND 3) send an e-mail to tmpforums@themagicpebble.com (remember to include your user name, real name, the name of your sponsor, and a description of yourself and your interest in magic).

DON'T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY, but if we don't have all three needed things from you, your application will be set aside and we will not contact you. If we have everything we need, however, we will inform you of the outcome of the vote when it is completed.
